What to bring to CANA

  • Your Massachusetts Medical Use of Marijuana Program card (physical or the digital card in the MMJ Online System)
  • A valid government photo ID
  • Caregivers: your caregiver card plus the patient's registration [CONFIRM caregiver policy]

how to get a massachusetts medical card

    See a provider

    See a certifying healthcare provider. A Massachusetts physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant registered with the program confirms you have a qualifying condition. Many offer telehealth visits.

    Get your PIN

    After the visit, the provider enters your certification and you receive a PIN by email.

  3. 3

    Register online

    Create an account in the Cannabis Control Commission's MMJ Online System, enter your PIN, upload a photo and your ID, and submit. There is no state registration fee for patients. [CONFIRM current fee]

    Shop right away

    Once approved you can print a temporary card and shop the same day. The permanent card arrives by mail. Certifications renew yearly.
