Some causes demand more than awareness — they demand action. That's why CANA Craft Cannabis is proud to support The Women's Center, an organization that has been a lifeline for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the SouthCoast community for over 50 years. Our New Bedford location at 2121 Phillips Rd contributed to The Women's Center as part of CANA's $60,000 community giving program across Norton, Fairhaven, and New Bedford in 2025.
For more than half a century, The Women's Center has been the place where survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault begin a journey to safety, hope, and empowerment. Based in New Bedford at 405 County Street, the organization serves women, children, and men from across the SouthCoast region.
Their services are free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That last part matters more than most people realize — because crisis doesn't wait for business hours.
Crisis Services include safety planning, emergency shelter and housing, on-site hospital support, and in-court guidance for survivors navigating the legal system. When someone is in danger, The Women's Center is there — immediately.
Ongoing Services provide the long-term support that healing requires: individual counseling for survivors and their loved ones, group counseling for adults and teens, and specialized child and adolescent trauma therapy. Recovery from abuse is not a single moment — it's a journey, and The Women's Center walks alongside survivors every step of the way.
Education Services focus on prevention and awareness, bringing programming to students, organizations, and institutions. They also provide referrals to other service providers and conduct outreach to increase community awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Women's Center is particularly attuned to serving those of low and moderate income, Black, indigenous, and people of color, and non-English speaking members of the community — ensuring that the most marginalized survivors have access to the help they need.
CANA's donation helps fund the critical services that survivors depend on: emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and education programs. Running a 24/7 operation that provides shelter, hospital accompaniment, court advocacy, and trauma therapy requires significant resources. For an organization that offers all of its services free of charge, community support is essential.
Every dollar helps ensure that when someone finds the courage to reach out — at 2 AM, on a holiday, in the middle of a crisis — someone answers.
"The Women's Center has been doing this work for over 50 years — showing up for survivors around the clock, providing safety when people need it most. Their commitment to serving everyone, regardless of income, language, or background, reflects the kind of community we all want to live in. Supporting The Women's Center isn't optional for us — it's a responsibility."
