Community isn't an abstract idea at CANA Craft Cannabis — it's something we practice. Our New Bedford location at 2121 Phillips Rd is proud to give back as part of CANA's $60,000 community giving program across Norton, Fairhaven, and New Bedford in 2025. Among the organizations we're honored to support is Mercy Meals and More, a New Bedford nonprofit that makes sure no one in our city starts the day hungry.
Mercy Meals & More is a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a simple, powerful mission: provide a nutritious beginning to the day for neighbors in need. Six days a week — Monday through Saturday — they serve a hot breakfast from 6:30 to 7:30 AM to anyone who walks through the door. No questions asked. No paperwork required. Just a warm meal and a warm welcome.
But Mercy Meals does more than feed people. Led by David Motta and a team of dedicated volunteers, the organization also provides clothing and foot care to those in need. The "and More" in their name is intentional — they understand that hunger is rarely the only challenge someone faces, and they meet people where they are with whatever support they can offer.
What truly sets Mercy Meals apart is its philosophy. Every guest is treated with dignity and respect. The goal isn't just to fill an empty stomach — it's to create a healthy atmosphere that builds networks of friendships and strengthens the community from the inside out. For many of their guests, Mercy Meals is more than a meal program. It's a lifeline, a social connection, and proof that someone cares.
CANA's donation to Mercy Meals and More helps keep breakfasts on the table — literally. Serving hot meals six days a week requires a constant supply of food, kitchen supplies, and operational resources. For a nonprofit that relies on donations and volunteer labor, contributions like this help bridge the gap between need and capacity.
The funding also supports the organization's clothing distribution and foot care programs, which address the practical, everyday needs that can make an enormous difference in someone's quality of life. A pair of warm socks or a clean jacket might seem small, but for someone without them, it's everything.
"There's something profound about an organization that opens its doors before dawn, six days a week, to make sure no one goes hungry. Mercy Meals and More doesn't just serve breakfast — they serve hope. They remind every person who walks through that door that they matter. That's exactly the kind of work we want to stand behind."
