How CANA Supports Community Nurse Home Care

By CANA Craft Cannabis

At CANA Craft Cannabis, giving back isn't an afterthought — it's woven into everything we do. When we opened our doors in Fairhaven, we made a promise to invest in the organizations that make this community strong. Community Nurse Home Care is one of those organizations, and we're proud to stand behind their work.

CANA is honored to contribute to Community Nurse Home Care as part of our $60,000 community giving program across Norton, Fairhaven, and New Bedford in 2025.

About Community Nurse Home Care

Community Nurse Home Care has been caring for the people of southeastern Massachusetts since 1916 — over a century of bringing compassionate health care directly into people's homes. What started with a single nurse traveling by bicycle to visit neighbors in need has grown into a 5-star team of approximately 150 dedicated professionals, including nurses, therapists, home health aides, social workers, and a devoted group of volunteers.

Based at 62 Center Street in Fairhaven, Community Nurse is an independent, not-for-profit agency providing home health care and hospice services across 21 communities in the SouthCoast region. Their motto — "We Bring Caring Home" — isn't just a tagline. It's a daily reality for the families they serve.

The numbers speak for themselves: 100% of patients begin care in a timely manner (compared to a 96% national average), 91% of patients would recommend Community Nurse to friends and family (versus 79% nationally), and 98% of patients remain in their communities after discharge. These aren't just statistics — they represent real people staying home, staying healthy, and staying connected to the life they know.

What Our Donation Supports

CANA's donation helps Community Nurse continue delivering exceptional home health care and hospice services to patients regardless of their ability to pay. As a not-for-profit, Community Nurse relies on community support to fill the gaps that insurance doesn't cover — things like charitable care visits, specialized equipment, and the extra time it takes to truly listen to a patient's needs.

This funding supports the skilled clinicians who create comprehensive recovery plans, the home health aides who provide daily comfort, and the hospice team that ensures dignity and peace during life's most difficult moments.

Why This Cause Matters to Us

"There's something deeply meaningful about an organization that has been caring for this community for over 100 years. Community Nurse doesn't just provide medical care — they provide peace of mind to families across the SouthCoast. We're grateful to support their mission of keeping people healthy, comfortable, and home."

Rooted in Community

This donation is part of CANA's commitment to Fairhaven-area organizations in 2025 — an increase from our 2024 giving. Across all three of our locations, CANA is investing $60,000 in community organizations because we believe that a thriving community benefits everyone.

When we support organizations like Community Nurse Home Care, we're investing in the kind of place where people look out for one another. That's the SouthCoast we know, and the SouthCoast we're proud to call home.
